Our Method

Therapy is a process in which you, the client, will have the opportunity to explore your life from an objective perspective. This is a process that is unique to the therapeutic relationship and may be an experience you've never had before. The therapist provides a safe, confidential space in which she and the client can begin to collaborate on goals for treatment. It is mutually understood that the client is the expert and the therapist is the facilitator; "It is that the individual has within himself or herself vast resources for self- understanding, for altering his or her self- concept, attitudes and self-directed behavior- and that these resources can be tapped if only a definable climate of facilitative psychological attitudes can be provided" (Carl Rogers).

Therapy is an experience between two people in which reparative and helpful interactions become the basis for allowing the client to develop self-awareness and practical skills. Through an exploration of your individual thoughts, feelings, and actions, we will discover the coping skills you have developed to help you deal with your life experiences and will work to enhance them to address your current and future challenges. Together, we will identify needs that haven't been met in the past and consider how you may meet them in the present and future. We will assist you in developing a strong sense of identity that will equip you in achieving your lifelong goals.

As a client, you gain a deeper understanding of your emotions and will grow in your ability to manage them. You will learn to draw upon your inner resources to experience reduced stress and will feel empowered to make choices as your options expand. Clients learn to cultivate trust in themselves as they acquire greater self-acceptance and self- love. Over the course of therapy, you will develop the ability to effectively find positivity, meaning, connection, and confidence in your relationship with yourself and your surroundings.

As clinicians, we understand that no single treatment approach works for everyone. Our unique approach combines empathy, humor, and a variety of theoretical orientations to service your distinct needs. While we strongly draw upon psychodynamic, trauma, and attachment informed practices, we also utilize concepts of family systems, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and dialectical behavior (DBT) therapies to best individualize your treatment.
